Phuket FantaSea – Show, tickets & tips for your visit

Phuket FantaSea has been one of Phuket's best-known attractions for many years. The theme park is located in Kamala and opens in the late afternoon, when its buildings, squares and fantasy settings gradually light up. At the center of the experience is Fantasy of a Kingdom, a large-scale stage show that the entire evening builds toward.

Before the show, there is time to explore Festival Village, stop at the games and smaller performances and, if you choose, have dinner at the Golden Kinnaree Buffet. How much of the evening you spend at FantaSea is largely up to you. Arrive early and include dinner and you can easily spend several hours in the park. With a later arrival, you can focus more on Festival Village and the main show.

FantaSea draws on Thai stories, architecture and mythology, but presents them as a large-scale entertainment production with acrobatics, illusions, pyrotechnics and theatrical effects. It is better understood as a Thai-inspired fantasy world than as a place intended to present traditional Thai culture as authentically as possible.

Elephants are a prominent and clearly visible part of the concept, from the Palace of the Elephants to their appearances in Fantasy of a Kingdom. Other animals are also part of different areas of the park. If you prefer to avoid animal performances, this is worth knowing before booking.

Is Phuket FantaSea worth it?

Phuket FantaSea is most worthwhile if a large and deliberately theatrical evening show is exactly what you are looking for. Much of its appeal comes from the combination of the illuminated park, entertainment before the performance and the large finale inside the Palace of the Elephants.

For families with children who enjoy acrobatics, magic and large stage shows or during a first trip to Phuket, the evening can provide a very different experience from beaches, markets and boat trips. The park develops much of its atmosphere after dark before the main show begins later in the evening.

If your main interest is Thai history, traditional dance or local culture, there are other experiences in Phuket where these elements play a more central role. FantaSea is clearly about the spectacle and large-scale production.

An evening at Phuket FantaSea

Phuket FantaSea currently opens on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 5:30 pm. The regular performance of Fantasy of a Kingdom begins at 9:00 pm. Additional performances may be scheduled on selected dates.

After entering the park, you first arrive in Festival Village. Illuminated buildings, shops, games, smaller stage performances and various activities are spread along the walkways. Large roller coasters or rides in the style of a conventional amusement park are not part of the concept. Festival Village is instead the part of the evening where you can wander through the grounds, discover individual areas and spend the time before the show according to your own interests.

With a Show + Buffet Ticket, the Golden Kinnaree becomes part of the evening as well. The buffet begins early in the evening, so it makes sense to arrive with enough time to eat without rushing. With a Show Only ticket, you can have dinner in Kamala beforehand and keep your time at FantaSea considerably shorter.

Later, the evening moves to the Palace of the Elephants, the park's large theater. Admission for the regular performance begins at 8:20 pm. Smartphones, cameras and other recording devices cannot be taken into the auditorium and must be checked or stored in a locker before entering. Allow a little extra time for the walk to the theater and the security process.

The regular show finishes at around 10:10 pm. Afterward, there is still time for shops, drinks or one final walk through the park before it closes at 11:30 pm.

Allow around four hours if you want to include the buffet, Festival Village and the show. Arriving later and focusing on Festival Village and the main performance makes it possible to keep the visit shorter.

Fantasy of a Kingdom – What to expect from the show

Fantasy of a Kingdom follows the legend of the fictional Kingdom of Kamala. At its center are a young prince and his magical elephant, Iyara. Figures such as the Kinnaree and Hanuman draw on Thai mythology and connect the different scenes.

The story serves more as a thread running through the performance than as the main reason to see it. The imagery and production take center stage, with aerial acrobatics, illusions, stunts, fight scenes, pyrotechnics, changing sets and large theatrical effects. Elephants and other animals also appear in different scenes.

Parts of the performance extend into the auditorium rather than remaining entirely on the main stage. Sets and lighting change quickly, while powerful sound effects accompany individual scenes. This makes the space beyond the stage part of the fast-moving fantasy show as well.

Very little spoken dialogue is needed to follow the story. Music, imagery and effects carry much of the performance, so the show remains easy to follow even without strong English skills. Loud sections and sudden explosion effects can, however, feel intense for younger children.

Fantasy of a Kingdom is deliberately designed as a large entertainment show rather than a restrained cultural performance. That elaborate production style defines much of its character.

The Golden Kinnaree Buffet at Phuket FantaSea

The main question when choosing a ticket is whether you want dinner to be part of your FantaSea visit. Golden Kinnaree is a very large and elaborately designed dining hall with seating for several thousand guests. The buffet includes Thai and international dishes, with vegetarian, vegan and halal options available as well. If you have allergies or specific dietary requirements, the available options should be confirmed with the operator before booking.

The biggest advantage of the buffet is how easy it makes the evening to plan. You arrive early, eat inside the park and still have enough time afterward for Festival Village and the main show. This is particularly convenient for families or when you want to keep the evening as straightforward as possible.

If you prefer to plan dinner independently of FantaSea, a Show Only ticket gives you more flexibility. Kamala has plenty of restaurants and you can then head to FantaSea specifically for Festival Village and the main show. For couples or anyone who prefers a shorter evening, this is often the more attractive option.

Suriyamas Gold offers a smaller area within Golden Kinnaree where seafood and international dishes are served. Fewer guests create a calmer setting than in the large main dining hall. The upgrade already includes a Gold Seat for the later performance but costs considerably more than the regular buffet.

Are the Gold Seats worth it?

The Palace of the Elephants seats around 3,000 guests. Gold Seats are positioned more centrally in the theater and currently cost an additional 350 Baht per seat. Seats within the booked category are assigned automatically according to availability. A specific seat cannot be selected during the regular booking process.

If Fantasy of a Kingdom is the main reason for your visit, a Gold Seat can be the most worthwhile upgrade. The stage is very wide and many scenes unfold across a large area, so the more central position provides a more direct view of the overall production.

The additional 350 Baht is most worthwhile when the main show is the focus of the evening. If the park, games and time together are equally important, the standard seating category is still a perfectly reasonable choice.

Phuket FantaSea with kids

Phuket FantaSea is clearly designed with families in mind. Illuminated fantasy settings, games, characters and smaller performances mean the evening offers children plenty to see before the main theater show begins.

With younger children, the late timing is the main point to consider. The regular performance does not begin until 9:00 pm and ends shortly after 10:00 pm. Once travel to and from the park is included, it can become a long evening.

There are also scenes with explosions and powerful sound effects. Children who are sensitive to sudden loud noises may find some of these moments intense. Older children who enjoy magic, acrobatics and large stage shows are likely to enjoy the elaborate production in particular.

Children's ticket prices are based on height rather than age. The child rate currently applies from 101 to 140 centimeters inclusive. Children up to and including 100 centimeters do not currently need their own admission ticket but do not receive a separate seat in the theater.

Elephants and other animals at Phuket FantaSea

Elephants are an established part of Phuket FantaSea and feature prominently in Fantasy of a Kingdom. The Palace of the Elephants itself already shows how central they are to the visual identity and overall concept of the park.

There are also activities involving live animals outside the theater. These include elephant riding and feeding as well as other tourist animal attractions. Visitors can choose to skip these activities. Appearances by elephants and other animals are, however, part of the main show and cannot be separated from it.

If you generally prefer to avoid animal performances, elephant riding or tourist interactions with animals, another evening attraction would be the better choice.

Phuket FantaSea or Carnival Magic?

Carnival Magic sits directly next to Phuket FantaSea. In photos, the two parks can initially look quite similar, but the actual experience is very different.

At FantaSea, the evening builds toward Fantasy of a Kingdom. The large theater production with acrobatics, illusions, special effects and a Thai-inspired fantasy world forms the centerpiece.

Carnival Magic spreads more of the experience throughout the park. The River Carnival, colorful themed areas and Kingdom of Lights with its light installations are the main attractions. The evening therefore feels more like a modern nighttime theme park, while FantaSea is more clearly built around its central stage show.

Which of the two is a better fit depends mainly on how you want to spend the evening. If a large theater production with acrobatics and fantasy elements should be the main focus, Phuket FantaSea is the better choice. If you would rather experience a parade, extensive themed areas and numerous light installations, Carnival Magic is likely to suit you better.

There is also a difference when it comes to animals. Carnival Magic is sometimes described as a completely animal-free alternative, but that is not entirely accurate. It currently has an area called Animal Funhouse with live animals. Animals do, however, play a much smaller role in its central parade and lighting concept than at FantaSea.

The regular opening days currently complement each other. FantaSea opens on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays, while Carnival Magic opens on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Visiting both therefore requires two separate evenings. FantaSea currently also offers a combined two-park package, with the two visits taking place on different evenings.

Phuket FantaSea tickets, prices and opening hours

Phuket FantaSea is currently open on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays from 5:30 pm to 11:30 pm. Fantasy of a Kingdom normally begins at 9:00 pm and lasts around 70 minutes. Additional performances may be scheduled on selected dates.

Current standard prices are:

— Show Only: 1,800 Baht for adults and children

— Show + Buffet Ticket: 2,200 Baht for adults and 2,000 Baht for children

— Gold Seat: Additional 350 Baht

— Suriyamas Gold: Additional 1,550 Baht with the Show + Buffet Ticket, with Gold Seat already included

— Phuket FantaSea + Carnival Magic two-park package including shows and buffets: 3,700 Baht for adults and 3,600 Baht for children

Regular tickets include park admission, Fantasy of a Kingdom and access to Tiger Jungle Adventure. The Show + Buffet Ticket also includes dinner at Golden Kinnaree. The buffet begins in the early evening. Some additional activities inside the park are charged separately.

The FantaSea and Carnival Magic visits included in the two-park package take place on two separate evenings. Separate reservations must be made for both parks. The voucher for the second park remains valid for 14 days from the date the first ticket is issued.

The child rate applies from 101 to 140 centimeters inclusive. Children up to and including 100 centimeters currently enter free of charge but do not receive their own seat in the theater.

Tickets are tied to a specific visit date and, under the current booking conditions, are not refundable or freely changeable. Opening days, additional performances and prices can change, so check the chosen date and current conditions again before booking.

Getting to Phuket FantaSea

Phuket FantaSea is located in Kamala near Kamala Beach on Phuket's west coast. From Kamala itself, the park is quick to reach. Surin, Bangtao and Patong are also relatively convenient starting points. From Kata, Karon or Phuket Town, the journey takes longer, particularly in early evening traffic.

A taxi, Grab or private driver makes it easiest to adapt the journey to your own plans. This is particularly useful if you want to eat in Kamala beforehand or return directly to your hotel after the show.

FantaSea also offers a shared round-trip transfer between hotels in Phuket and the park. It currently costs 450 Baht per person. Families and small groups may want to compare the total price with a taxi or private driver because the shared transfer is charged per person.

What to know before you go

There is no fixed dress code, although entry without a shirt or in swimwear is not permitted. The theater is air-conditioned, so a light jacket or thin sweater can be useful, particularly for children. Outside food and drinks cannot be brought into the park. Festival Village has several places for snacks and smaller meals in addition to Golden Kinnaree.

Smartphones and cameras can be used throughout the park. Before entering the theater, recording devices must be checked or stored in a designated locker because photography and video are not permitted during Fantasy of a Kingdom.

How much time you spend at FantaSea can be adapted quite easily to your plans for the evening. Arriving early makes sense if you want the buffet and plenty of time to explore the park. If Fantasy of a Kingdom is your main priority, you can arrive later and keep the visit shorter.

Which Phuket FantaSea experience is right for you?

Phuket FantaSea is particularly well suited to travelers who want to experience a large entertainment show with Thai-inspired imagery, an illuminated theme park and an elaborately staged main performance.

For an easy family evening, an early start with the buffet and show is the simplest option. If Fantasy of a Kingdom is your main reason for visiting, a Show Only ticket allows you to arrive later and keep the evening shorter. A Gold Seat can also be worthwhile when the main show is the priority. If animal performances are an important factor in your decision, consider this before choosing your ticket.

The combination of Festival Village and a large-scale stage production makes FantaSea an evening concept that is difficult to find elsewhere in Phuket.
